Darren is a native to Lompoc moving here when he was 2 and attending Los Padres Elementary (Manzanita now), Vandenberg Middle School and then Cabrillo High School. He has been active for the majority of his life. From running around the school yard, catching lizards and climbing every tree he could find, he found a passion for sports at an early age. Tennis, soccer, baseball, volleyball, football and basketball, there wasn’t a sport he wasn’t willing to try and he excelled at those he attempted. In high school he honed in on Tennis and Basketball while still playing club volleyball. Darren was brought up his sophmore year in highschool to the varsity basketball team and was a freshman on the varsity tennis team. He went on to be a four year lettermen in Tennis and continued his journey in basketball at SBCC. He was a vital component to the Vaqueros mens team and played there for two years.
He has always been a gym rat and could always be found around the fitness facitlities. He attended Fresno State after SBCC and fianlly finished at CSU Northridge with a BS in Kinesiology Exercise Science. Finding a love for body mechanics and physiology, he looked further into how to increase the bodies performance through differing training techniques.
Darren was introduced to CrossFit late 2010. Like most first timers he was flat on his back and humbled by the experience. Also like most he picked himself up, after catching his breath, and said “When are we doing this again?” “I can do better”. Competition within himself was fuled as he does not need to be the best at everything but does not like sucking at anything. Birth the SPORT OF FITNESS!
Once he grasped what CrossFit brought to a community and how it built a community from the inside out, he knew he wanted to bring that back to the central coast. Here in Lompoc, Ca. is the birth of CrossFit Ohana!! While life throws obstacles he has begun to increase his training schedule and is fueling better by eating 100% Paleo, 80% of the time;-)
He enjoys his time with his Wife, Caitlin Boyle and 6 year old daughter, Taylor as they too have joined in on this lifestyle of fitness.

Justin is a native of Worcester Massachusetts, also known as the 2nd largest city in New England (no big deal). As a youth, he was a multi sport athlete excelling in baseball, basketball, football, tennis, lacrosse, badminton, hockey, rugby, swimming, diving, dancing, soccer, jai-alai, rapping, surfing, skiing, and curling. In addition to athletics, he earned straight A’s in phys ed (gym class) from Kindergarten through his second senior year of high school.
At 19, Justin enlisted in the USAF, setting him on the path that would ultimately lead him to his two lifelong loves: winning and CrossFit. An avid weightlifter and runner most of his Air Force career, he was not introduced to CrossFit until 2009 by his father, a Lieutenant on the world’s best police department, the WPD. After two years of dabbling with WODs programmed on the crossfit.com mainsite, he truly began CrossFitting while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. Freedom isn’t free people, hug a veteran.
Following his return from Afghanistan , he successfully opened an Affiliate in San Jose, CrossFit 408. At the same time CF 408 was opened, Justin met who would soon become his bestest friend, coach, and mentor; Darren Keola Savella, owner and head coach of CrossFit Ohana. As their friendship blossomed and Justin began coaching, it was apparent to him he did not want to leave the Lompoc area or the community Mr. Savella had grown. Two years later stands before you the man I am today. Coach, friend, son, hetero lifemate, and Technical Sergeant in the world’s greatest Airpower; he is not a man of labels. Coach Justin just wants you to know that he loves coaching, loves you all, and is ready to make you into the best version of yourselves possible. To the Lions!!!

Coach Eric is a 11 year veteran Firefighter of Vandenberg Fire Department so it goes without saying that fitness is a very important aspect of his life. He first started his career with the Vandenberg Hot Shots, a team specializing in wild land fire fighting, in 2004. The job was very physically demanding. For the next 2 years, his fitness program consisted mostly of running and hiking as these two aspects of fitness were key for his current position. In 2006, Eric promoted to the structural side of the department. Here, the physical demands of his job changed. Now he would need to move heavy objects, maneuver fire hose, and use heavy equipment. For the next few years, Eric experimented with different programs consisting of treadmill use and weight lifting but having never been properly trained, he soon lost interest in all of them. Enter CrossFit.
In 2008, Eric was reassigned to Fire Station 5. At the time, the crew assigned there had been using a workout program that was relatively new. Long time friend and fellow Firefighter, Erin Butler helped introduce Eric to CrossFit. He was interested and at the same time very intimidated. At the time, Eric and his crew were on their own with only one member actually belonging to a gym who would bring his knowledge back and share it. Soon it became fun and Eric became more and more interested in the movements, in the history, and in the community. In 2011 Eric began attending classes at Central Coast CrossFit. After a little over a year, Eric learned that a childhood friend, Darren Savella, would soon return to Lompoc to open Lompoc’s first CrossFit affiliate. After several conversations, it was decided that both Eric and Erin would become certified as a Level 1 CrossFit trainers and assist Darren as such at CFO.
Eric’s time spent at Ohana has been nothing short of amazing. He’s grown mentally, spiritually, and physically. While he really enjoys working with all of the athletes he coaches, his passion is working with those who are new to CrossFit, especially those who are new to fitness all together. He loves to help people achieve their goals and seeing them succeed. His collection of bandanas is nothing short of impressive and has become his signature look. When not coaching, Eric spends time at home with his wife, Jenny and their children, Lilly Anne and Arrin.

I have been a chiropractor for 20 years, practicing in Lompoc for the last 18 of those years. My wife Rene, and I have two great kids. Our daughter Jade is now in Chiropractic College and our son KC is ten, growing fast and gaining interest in fitness for himself.I have always been interested in fitness and outdoor activity, from horseback riding and golf to fishing, diving and surfing, as I grew up in Florida. Doing mini triathlons , 5-10 K races and half marathons were fun but never fun enough to keep doing them. I was never one to go to gyms and health clubs either, as they never seemed like a fun way to spend free time. Then I met Darren and Caitlin, owners of CF Ohana. My wife and I reluctantly agreed to try Crossfit for 90 days. That first day was August of 2012. We have been going ever since. My fitness levels and strength levels have increased beyond what I imagined, and I feel better now than I did ten years ago at 34. My wife has noticed the same thing with herself. We love the community of Crossfit, especially our Ohana crew.As I learned more about functional and foundational movements, I realized how beneficial this mode of fitness is for not only a healthy physique, but more importantly an healthy nervous system. It goes hand in hand with the basic tenets of chiropractic, that say a healthy spine and neural system is critical to health and wellness. I felt so strongly about it the I became a CF level one trainer to further my understanding of Crossfit to benefit my own progression to elite fitness, my patients health, and to be able to take my 20 years of chiropractic experience into coaching others to help others unlock their hidden potential. The next phase of my journey in Crossfit will be a Crossfit Kids Certification, and in Chiropractic a continued expansion of my family and pediatric Chiropractic practice.
